Vets

Weekdays 9am–5pm, non-rabbit issues: Call Pine Banks Animal Hospital at (781) 321-1300 — 15 minute walk through the cemetery or 5 minute drive. Use the emergency envelope for payment. (They no longer see rabbits.)

All other times, or any Alvin issue: Call MSPCA Angell Boston at (617) 522-7282. If it's about Alvin, confirm they have a doctor in who can see rabbits. They may refer you to their emergency line.

Alternative emergency vet (all animals except rabbit): Blue Pearl Charlestown — (617) 284-9777. Call first to confirm availability. The emergency kit has payment and a general preauthorization for care.

Once you've confirmed a vet: text us the vet's name, then call to explain the situation. We'll call ahead with payment authorization. If you have a valid US driver's license, we can give you access to our car. Otherwise, use Uber or Lyft and select Pet when choosing the car type — we'll reimburse the fare.

For Alvin or the cats, use a carrier. For the dogs, use a leash and harness if possible.

Utilities

Power outage: Report to National Grid at myaccount.nationalgrid.com/outages, then let us know.

Gas emergency: Call National Grid at nationalgridus.com/Report-Gas-Emergency.

Breaker box and water main: Both in the basement closet behind the TV, to the left. The breaker box is also where the router and downstairs WiFi access point are. Additional water shutoffs with yellow handles are elsewhere in the basement.

Moen Smart Water (water monitoring): The water main is also controllable via the Moen Smart Water app on the iPad in the kitchen. The system monitors water usage and may shut off the water automatically if it detects unusual flow.

  • Before filling the bathtub or taking a long shower, enable Sleep Mode in the app to pause alerts for the duration: open Moen Smart Water → tap the home screen → select Sleep Mode → choose a duration. The system resumes automatically when it expires.
  • If the water shuts off unexpectedly, open the Moen Smart Water app and check for alerts — you can turn the water back on from within the app.
  • If you can't access the app or restore water, let us know and we can do it remotely.

Rabbit first aid kit: Basement closet behind the TV, about eye level to the left of the door. Includes basic medicines and Critical Care.

Shovel and snowblower: Outside in the backyard, battery powered. Message us before using.

Snow emergencies: Parking restrictions apply during declared snow emergencies only — we'll notify you if one is declared.
