Trash and recycling

Collection days

• Trash and recycling — put bins out Wednesday evening for Thursday morning pickup
• Compost — put bin out Thursday evening for Friday pickup (usually afternoon, but sometimes very early morning)

Bin locations

• Trash — kitchen drawer on the left. Uses a blue bag — trash will not be picked up without one
• Recycling — kitchen drawer on the right. Do not bag recycling
• Small compost — stainless steel bin mounted to the left of the kitchen counter (pull up on the tab to open)
• Large compost — green bin downstairs near Alvin, close to the wall

Extra bags are in the kitchen drawers closest to the floor, below the silverware drawer near the dishwasher.

What goes where

Recycling — paper, hard plastic, cardboard, cans. No need to sort. Do not add plastic film or bags. If you're not sure: City of Malden Waste Wizard

Compost — all food (including meat, bones, dairy), plants, Alvin's hay and poops, Artizan Nespresso pods, compostable plastic wrap and baggies. Do not include produce stickers, dog/cat waste, or paper takeout boxes (they have hidden plastics). If you're not sure: Black Earth Compost guide
